MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute (MVRCCRI) is a world-class cancer care facility at Kozhikode, Kerala, India. There are 15 departments and 15 specialized clinics that cater to various cancers of the body. More than 40 well-known oncologists lead the facility that has been built at an investment of Rs 350 crore.

The role of a Physician Assistant-Oncology

Oncology Physician Assistants (PA) are formally trained to provide assistance to a physician in patient care. They are members of a health care team, who take medical histories, perform physical examination and order routine laboratory tests under the guidance of a physician. PAs record progress notes, instruct and counsel patients, and note down physician’s orders to carry out therapy.

They will also help physician by writing discharge summaries dictated by the physician. They have an important role in improving documentation of patient details in hospital information system. The role of a physician assistant is to help the busy physician in providing more attention and care to each patient. Personalized patient care translates to better patient satisfaction.

Employment Opportunities:

This is a job-oriented course. Those who successfully complete the course will be absorbed in MVRCCRI if there are vacancies. They will also be hired by other cancer centres and hospitals with an oncology department.

The course will provide an opportunity for nurses who want to shift from a nursing career to that of a physician assistant even while remaining a healthcare professional.

Course Duration:

1 year, with 6 months of internship(with stipend).


B.Sc. Nursing Graduates with a minimum of 50% marks.

The MVRCCRI, set up by the Care Foundation initiated by Calicut City Service Cooperative Bank, is situated on 17 acre property at Vellalaserri in Kozhikode district with 300 bed strength spread over six lakhs square feet area. The Centre is named after the late CMP leader M. V. Raghavan. Inaugurated on January 17 2017, both the OP and IP departments are functional from January 18 2017. The Hospital established at a cost of INR 350 Crore has spent INR 150 crore for acquiring the latest Equipment.
