Department of Anaesthesiology and perioperative medicine of MVRCCRI, Chooloor conducted the first of the MVR Anaesthesia CME series on July 15 th 2018. It was a very focused CME – “Thoracic Anaesthesia: An Update” and was well attended and appreciated by practicing anaesthesiologists and post graduate students alike. It was a one day program with talks and workshops.
The morning session had eminent speakers from different parts of Kerala discoursing on all aspects of Anaesthesia for thoracic surgeries. Topics ranged from basic anatomy and physiology as relevant to thoracic anaesthesia and preoperative evaluation and optimization of patients to presentation and discussion of different clinical scenarios. There were also talks about novel analgesia techniques, post operative management in ICU , and protocols to effect an enhanced recovery after thoracic surgeries.
The afternoon was dedicated to 3 workshops highlighting the current concepts and practice in (i) point of care lung ultrasound, (ii) lung isolation techniques and (iii) regional anaesthesia.
The feedback from the faculty and delegates was good. All had good words about the venue and the facilities and hospitality of the organizers. Delegates showed interest in attending future CME s being organised here and suggested topics for the same.

The MVRCCRI, set up by the Care Foundation initiated by Calicut City Service Cooperative Bank, is situated on 17 acre property at Vellalaserri in Kozhikode district with 300 bed strength spread over six lakhs square feet area. The Centre is named after the late CMP leader M. V. Raghavan. Inaugurated on January 17 2017, both the OP and IP departments are functional from January 18 2017. The Hospital established at a cost of INR 350 Crore has spent INR 150 crore for acquiring the latest Equipment.
